Apple iPad in-car installation

SoundMan Car Audio in Santa Clarita, California is the first to install an iPad in a car. The car of choice? A Toyota Tacoma pickup.

Although Hyundai already announced it will sell every 2011 Equus with an Apple iPad as an owner's manual, the aftermarket has already started coming up with some solutions of its own in the giddy hours following the iPad's official release. SoundMan Car Audio wasted no time fitting an iPad into the dash of a Toyota Tacoma.

In the video below, the SoundMan team shows step-by-step how it performed the installation. The iPad in the dash is merely a mock setup for the moment, but the team has plans to get an elaborate sound system up soon that will go along with the iPad.

In this Tacoma, SoundMan installed an Audison Bit One processor, a McIntosh six-channel amp, Onkyo ND-S1 and an iPod dock. The team repositioned some of the switches to the left of the steering wheel and installed the Bit One there, which will control the volume and audio settings.

They still need to wire it up to the Audison Bit One sound processor and McIntosh MMC406M 6-channel amp, but they’ve fitted and molded the dash to the iPad. Sure it looks a tad awkward with it’s size and that bezel, but all of your media will be along for the ride right?
