iPad Problems issues

People who pre-ordered an iPad will start to receive them on Saturday April 4th, 2010. A number of pre-release iPad units have been available to media outlets to Review Apple's latest device. Some of the most popular reviews come in the form of iPad Unboxing Videos.

As the number of devices made available to the public increases, customers will undoubtedly uncover new iPad problems and form solutions to these issues.

iPad WiFi Problem

On April 6th, 2010 the DailyMail.co.uk noted that several iPad users have reported that the iPad will not connect to WiFi access points.

The Daily Mail notes Apple Support Forum users complaining: 'All my devices, two laptops and iPhone have a strong signal, but my iPad does not connect to the internet at home at all and has a weak connection at work'

'I never imagined how USELESS this device is without connection - can basically only type notes in notepad app.

'I made an appointment with Apple Store and they replaced my iPad with a new one. Fingers crossed for better luck on this one.'

Notable industry insider Michal Arrington of Techcrunch has commented that he has received similar errors personally and has heard of other people experiencing the issue as well. Apple has not yet released an official comment. 'All my devices, two laptops and iPhone have a strong signal, but my iPad does not connect to the internet at home at all and has a weak connection at work,' aa514 from Los Angeles wrote.

Another user - andyspocket from Nashville, Tennessee - complained: 'I never imagined how USELESS this device is without connection - can basically only type notes in notepad app.

'I made an appointment with Apple Store and they replaced my iPad with a new one. Fingers crossed for better luck on this one.

iPad Storage Problems

Apple iPads are available with a maximum storage capacity of 64 Gigabytes (GB). Without the purchase and use of a large external connector (SD adapter), there is no way for storage to be expanded on the device.

This presents a problem as less than 5 movies, a handful of music and a moderate web browsing cache will fill this space quickly. Transferring files to and from the iPad also presents a problem as Apple has designed the device to use iTunes to facilitate all file transfers similar to an iPod. The device lacks simple drag-and-drop file abilities.

Every iPad ships with the ability to connect to the Internet. As a result, a number of online storage providers such as Box.net and Dropbox.com are preparing iPad Applications that allow people to connect to their services. These Apps allow people to store and access files when they are connected to the Internet using the iPad's built in WiFi networking or 3G cellular data access.

iPad security

Many Analysts are concerned about security flaws and issues with the iPad. These may not be insurmountable but are concerns nethertheless. This page will report on these issues as they arise. Analysts are particularly concerned because of the number of issues there were with iPhone security. Analysts are saying the iPad security architecture is very similar to that of the iPod.

Insufficient mobile broadband

Lack of mobile broadband could be a major issue. There will be millions of iPads sold, their portability will cause a significant increase in the demand for mobile broadband. Many are speculating that the mobile broadband industry is not set-up for this surge and can foresee problems ahead.

Can't charge iPad versus USB Port

Popular online site Engadget (amongst others) has reported problems charging the

iPad with USB Powered Hubs.

Although it is fairly early to speculate, Analysts are suggesting that the iPad requires more power than these devices can handle.

iPad Screen Flicker Problem

A number of users are reporting faults with iPad screen flicker problems. These may be isolated to individual iPads, this site will be updated as more is learned.

A user reported a fault on Mac Forums saying "I just noticed that the display has a mild flicker when the brightness is turned all the way down. This is more clearly visible in a dark room and with a white background.

The following fault was reported on Google Groups. "I've been messing around with the jQTouch demo on my iPad and everything seems to work except that I'm getting a "flicker" when a new page animates in. You basically see the old page for a split second along with a flash of green."

The Apple TOS and DRM

The iPad is not an "open architecture" device. Similar touch screen tablet devices such as the WePad are built on open operating systems such as Android. This allows programmers and developers a large amount of control over the programs and applications that they create. On the other hand, the iPad is built around Apple's closed iPhone OS that has long been the target of hacking and jailbreaking.

To follow Apple's business plan, the company needs to control what software and media can be accessed on the iPad. This allows technologies such as DRM (Digital Rights Management) to control piracy and illegal file trading. Other controls, force customers to use partnered cellular carriers such as AT&T for data access. Perhaps the biggest drawback of the limitations Apple places on devices such as the iPad is that Apple has unilateral control over the thousands of apps that are available for the device.

Apple has found itself under fire for removing all adult oriented applications along with other apps that do not conform to Apple's rules, ethics or corporate beliefs

Download Songs with iPad

The iPad is a hybrid of the iPod and the laptop computer. It offers such features as Wi-Fi connection, web browsing, word processing, email, and a wide range of applications. One of the key features of the iPad is the ability to store and listen to music in an easy, streamlined format. To get the very best use out of the iPad it is important to know how to download songs onto an iPad.

Anyone who owns an iPad and has access to a Wi-Fi connection or a computer can download music onto their iPad. The iPad is highly user friendly and offers a simple interface and connection method which allows iPad owners to connect, purchase, download, and begin playing music within a matter of minutes. There are two methods of downloading music to an iPad, by purchasing music from the iTunes Store directly onto the iPad and by syncing up the iPad with a computer and importing the computer's music into the iPad. Either of these options are simple, straightforward, and available to the average iPad user. Purchasing music from the iTunes store directly onto the iPad requires a Wi-Fi connection while syncing music between a computer and an iPad requires a USB cable.

The iPad has many unique features but downloading and listening to music is one of the key ones. The iPad uses iTunes software to purchase, categorize, and play all audio files, even audiobooks and podcasts. You can purchase and download music using iTunes directly to your iPad or you can connect your iPad to your computer and sync your music files between them to take with you on the go.

Apple's iTunes, which is used for both purchasing music, playing music, and syncing files between the iPad and the computer, offers a huge selection of music, television shows, movies, and more. It offers over 11 million high-quality songs alone, all of which can be previewed and purchased on the iPad.http://www.apple.com/itunes/what-is/2 The iPad comes preloaded with iTunes and you can begin using the iTunes store immediately. Along with music and videos you can use iTunes to purchase applications for your iPad in the iTunes Apps store.http://www.apple.com/itunes/whats-on/3 All that is required to use iTunes on your iPad is an internet connection and an iTunes Store account. Once you are set up with an account, logged in, and connected to the internet you can begin browsing music, picking out songs that you want, downloading songs to your iPad, and syncing your iPad with your home desktop or laptop computer.

One way to download music onto your iPad is to purchase it from the iTunes store directly from your iPad. If your iPad is connected to the internet you will able able to open the iTunes Store and use it just as you would on a computer. Simply browse the store, purchase your song, wait for it to download, and you will be ready to start listening to music on your iPad.

The first step in downloading music from iTunes onto your iPad is to have an internet connection. The iPad has Wi-Fi capability. This means that you can connect to the internet using any open Wi-Fi connection, be it your home internet or Wi-Fi at a bookstore or cafe. This allows you to wirelessly connect to the internet from just about anywhere in the world where Wi-Fi is available.

The iPad will automatically connect to a Wi-Fi network whenever you open an application which requires an internet connection, such as Mail or the iTunes Store. To set up your Wi-Fi connection go to Settings and then to Wi-Fi. From there turn Wi-Fi on. In the Wi-Fi section you will be able to view the Wi-Fi networks in your area and choose which one to use. Simply select the network you wish to use and, if you successfully connect, your iPad will use this network automatically. If that network is not available in the future your iPad will connect to the next open Wi-Fi network. Some Wi-Fi connections require a password. These connections will have a lock symbol next to them. A successful Wi-Fi connection will show up in the status bar at the top of the screen. The more bars you have the stronger the connection.

Now that your iPad is connected to the internet you can begin downloading music. Go into iTunes and find the song that you are interested in. You can browse in iTunes by genre, artist, etc. as well as search for specific songs. Once you have found a song that you want simply tap the price and then tap Buy. If you are not already logged in you will need to do so now. Accept the purchase and your account will be charged. Your song will begin downloading and you will be able to listen to it as soon as it is ready. You can purchase songs separately or buy whole albums at a time. All of your songs will show up in your iTunes library and can be played, ranked, and sorted from there.

Another way to get music onto your iPad is to sync it with your home computer. When you sync your iPad with a computer you will be able to bring the computer's data onto your iPad. This includes music. Syncing must be done through iTunes and, once your iPad and computer are synced, you can listen to all of your computer's music on your iPad. You can also bring music that you purchased on your iPad onto your computer through syncing.

To sync your iPad with your computer you simply need to connect the iPad to the computer using the USB cable which came with your iPad. Plug the larger end into the bottom of our iPad and plug the USB end into any open USB port on your computer. The iTunes software should open automatically when you first plug the iPad in.

In iTunes select your iPad device under Devices on the left-hand side of the screen. Now it is time to set up your syncing. Here you will find tabs used to change your iPad's settings. Go through the tabs and click which files you would like to sync. The Music tab is the tab specifically used for syncing music files between your computer and your iPad so be sure to check the settings on that tab. Once you have finished click Apply and you will begin syncing for the first time. You will need to choose between merge data or replace data for the iPad or for the computer. Merging data mingles different data between the computer and the iPad while replacing data will permanently override data on either the iPad or on the computer, depending on your choice. Whichever setting you choose now will be used for each future syncing session unless you change the setting manually at a later date. Now your iPad will sync with your computer and, once done, you will be able to listen to your music on your iPad. To put new music from your computer onto your iPad simply plug your iPad in and allow it to automatically sync up.

Clean Apple iPad screen & surface

iPad is a stylish looking device. You can keep the visual glitz going by keeping iPad neat and clean. iPad has an oleophobic coating on the screen. You can simply wipe the iPad screen with a soft, lint-free cloth to remove oil left by your hands. Basic cleaning routine can help you clean ipad screen and surface quickly.
Procedure to clean ipad tablet device

1. First unplug cables (if any) connected to the iPad.

2. Then turn off iPad completely. Press and hold sleep/ wake button and then slide the onscreen slider.

3. Then use a soft, slightly damp, lint-free cloth. Avoid getting moisture in openings.

Please note, do not use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, alcohol, ammonia, or abrasives to clean iPad. Rubbing the screen with an abrasive material will further diminish its effect and may scratch your screen. So, be careful!

Tips to clean the iPad touchscreen

After 30 minutes of usage, the iPad screen gets all smudgy with finger prints. How can I best and safely clean the touchscreen?

Cleaning iPad touchscreen is very simple. First don't use any liquid cleaners as it can damage the oleophobic coating which makes it easy to remove finger prints from the device.

The iPad doesn't come with a cleaning cloth but all the Macbooks and Macbook Pro's do and it works great.

Just wipe down the screen of your iPad with a Microfiber cloth or really any soft cloth. Bathrobes work great, cotton towels, t-shirts, even an old clean sock can do the trick.

The prints just wipe right off no water or liquid chemicals of any kind required. In fact I would highly recommend against chemicals on it of any kind.

If it does happen to get wet. My English Mastiff came in this morning and laid her head right on my iPad while I was typing. Just take a dry cloth and wipe it off. If something sticky gets on it put a little bit of plain water on a soft cloth and wipe it clean then use a dry one to dry it off.

Tips for New iPad Users

The iPad, as the new flashy kid at school, has people scrambling on how to maximize its special features. Part iPhone, part laptop, the iPad seems to exist in a middle earth of its own design. In this way much of its technology seems mythological to new users. Here are a few practical tips for those who have just picket up the first round of iPads are are looking to get it off the shelf.

The first thing that you have to note about the iPad is how many of the things that are the same from the iPhone and iPod Touch. You can reset the iPad the same way as with the iPhone, and the soft reset comes from simply hit the top button and the Home button with a few seconds of hold. The copy and paste functions, screenshots, keyboard functions, and basic built in applications all really work the same. The main thing that you have to look for on the iPad is items that are going to be fundamentally different from the iPhone.

Watching video content on your iPad is one of the most solid reasons to own it, but this is also one of the main places that you are given limitations. Not only are you basically prevented from watching videos from online websites, but you also have a limitation in what you can watch in the regular video section. If you have videos that are in 1080P you are not going to find them compatible for your iPad. The best tip to follow for remedy this is to use video conversion software to bring it down to 720P. You can find this easy to do in video programs like Compressor or Handbreak, and there are dozens of freeware ones dotting the internet.

You may want to take extra control over the bottom bar of the iPad and make it so that your constant tray holds a little more than the four previously allowed. This is easy to do by simply selecting and dragging two other applications down into the bottom tray. There is nothing restricting this so you can do it just as easily as you would when moving around iPad applications on the regular desktop. A good tip to follow is to continue to focus on only allowing built in applications down there as you are going to always want to be able to get at them with ease.

Since the iPad does take some of the regular laptop functions you will likely want to forgo the simple built in keyboard and use an attachable one for actual typing. What you have to note is that this will actually eliminate access to the standard iPad keyboard, which is the same as the one that has been a staple of the iPhone. If you want to get the regular iPad keyboard back you simply have to eject the attachable bluetooth keyboard.

One of the defining applications for the iPad is iBooks, a free iPad application that you get from the iTunes' App Store. This is an e-book reader that acts as a main competitor to the Amazon Kindle, but within this complete gadget. iBooks acts as both a store and a reader, but what it does well is actually conforms itself to the specifications of the iBooks user. The iBooks reader starts by just looking at a single page with the iPad held vertically, but if you want to look at two pages as a time you can just turn it horizontally. Changing the text size and font it relatively standard, but for those with any type of vision problems this can be an issue. If this is the case it is best to maintain a san serif font that is easier to read on the iPad.

Though you can buy books from iBooks, and definitely get some of the free books that Apple offers, the iPad is also a serious e-book reader that allows you to import content independently in the same way that it does with audio and video. You can find e-books independently, but note that the iPad only supports the ePub format.

One of the large selling points for the iPad has been its use in looking at photos. It has the Photo features that are standard on the iPhone and iPod Touch, such as the slideshow. What makes the iPad even more accessible for these needs is the ability for you to turn it in to a digital photo frame. A digital photo frame often takes the appearance of a classic frame that you would insert a picture into, but instead has an LCD screen that shuffles through pictures that you attached on a digital storage device. When you first start up the iPad you will notice that there is a Photo button to the right of the Slide to Unlock opener. When you hit this a slideshow of your photos will begin in full screen. This is best done when the iPad is on its side and in an adjustable stand for easy viewing. If you want to adjust the speeds you can do this in the normal iPad Photo Settings area, which is mainly defined by selecting the speed you want the photos to go through.

Besides iBooks, iWork may be the other defining feature of the iPad. It is here that the actual laptop functions from Apple are being worked in, even if there are slight compared to a fully functional Macbook Pro. iWork, though very much simplified, can be a little involved for use on the iPad. The best way to approach this is with constant syncs to your home computer. Here you can arrange everything you need for presentation ahead of time and do not have to slide around the touch screen getting things ready. Some things are great to do on the iPad, such as adding video effects, but you want to make sure that anything that is to be used as part of a complete presentation is not arranged there exclusively. The best way this can be done is by using Keynote to import Power Point files. If a presentation is arranged on Power Point ahead of time you will have more control. You can also easily create presentation in Keynote from your iPad and send them off, especially as a PDF. This is not going to give you as much in depth control as with Power Point, but if you are already doing it on your iPad then that may not be what you're looking for.

How To Get Free iPad

TV show hosts David Letterman and Stephen Colbert got iPad before the official release. The reason how Dave managed is unknown, but Stephen Colbert said he had to give up a kidney to get the iPad.

David suggests 10 questions you must ask yourself before buying an iPad, which also comes with a family! Check the video below.

iPad is another unnecessary device that Apple has created touting it as magical and revolutionary. The whole media industry is 'serving' Steve Jobs by doing free publicity and advertisement for theiPad. Newsweek put iPad on its cover for free where as Amazon had to pay heavily for a Kindle advertisement on the back cover.

Vishawa Mohan Tiwari, honorary editor of science fiction web-magazine, Kalkion said, "Personality is , by and large, determined by good health, rational mind and high moral values etc. These days media has changed its (personality's) meaning to include gadgets and toys etc., the very 'things' industrialists want to sell, to make profit, not necessarily for the good of the society but for their profit. They have turned the proverb 'Necessity is the mother of invention' to ' Invention is the mother of necessity.”

iPad Tips & Tricks

The single most common thing people don't realize about the iPhone OS (from my experience) is how to perform a soft reset—which you'll find extremely useful in cases when the system freezes.

Just hold the top (power) and bottom front (home) button for a few seconds. Your iPad will restart. To force quit an application, just hold the home button by itself in a similar fashion.

Copying text is as easy as double tapping a word. But when you want to copy a whole paragraph, like for an address, you have to stretch those annoying little blue knobs...or do you?

Tap any editable text four times. You'll highlight the whole paragraph.
Import Your Own (Free) Books

Apple's iBooks app is your portal to reading and buying eBooks on the iPad—and it includes a section with a few free books. But don't forget, just like iTunes and the iPod can import and play music downloaded elsewhere, the iTunes and the iPad can import and display books downloaded elsewhere. Formats are limited, however. The iPad only supports ePub (with or without DRM).

Your local library may be a great source for free ePub checkouts. Also, Project Gutenberg has 30,000 free ePub books you can download, all of which have fallen out of copyright. There's lots of good stuff in this collection if you read classics, and the project even has an RSS list for new arrivals.

If you want to convert PDFs and other DRM-free formats to ePub, you can use Calibre.
Easy Mute

There you are, in the back row of a funeral just minding your own business when, oops, you forgot to mute those YouTube clips on your iPad! No worries. There's a quick way to cut the speaker.

Holding down the volume down button for about two seconds will mute your iPad.
Never Buy a Digital Photo Frame Again

You probably know by now that the iPad doubles as a digital picture frame. You can access this function a few ways, but the easiest way?

When you wake the iPad, look to the right of Slide to Unlock. You'll see a flower. Click it. The slideshow will begin after a moment. Toggle the speed in Settings—oh, and while you're at it, turn off "zoom in on faces"—it tends to just grain/muck up your photos.

Another oldie but goody that many that many people don't realize you can do in the iPhone OS: screenshot anything you're looking at. And keep in mind, when this happens on the iPad, it's at 768x1024 resolution—making it potentially a lot more useful in the full-sized monitor realm than iPhone screenshots.

Push the top (power) and home buttons at once for half a second. The photo will be stored in your photo library.

So you're all the way to the bottom of a blog when you realize that you want to read a story back at the top. Don't do the whole repeatedly drag your finger across the screen thing. That's a horrible method for covering a lot of real estate. Instead:

Tap the title bar once. WOOOOSSHHH. You're right back on top of the page. (Making "wooosh" noises doesn't expedite the process, but it does wonders for general effect.)

Did you know that you can set your mail to preview more than two lines? The iPhone has this option, too, but its smaller screen means that it's not so practical. On the iPad, however, I find the feature is pretty handy for skimming several emails without opening them.

Go to Settings -> Mail, Contacts and Calendars and select "5 lines" under Preview. Also, while you're at it, you might want to update your Push email from "Manual" if you like to have your messages waiting when you open the Mail app. Of course, this will drain power a bit more quickly.

When you have a Bluetooth keyboard connected to your iPad, the virtual keyboard will cease to appear. (This is a good thing.) However, what if, for some random reason, you needed that virtual keyboard? Don't unpair your Bluetooth. Just...

Hit the eject key on Apple's physical keyboard. It'll bring up the virtual one.
Downrez 1080P HD Videos...Or You Can't Watch Them

You may have 1080P videos on your computer, but the iPad can't play them—in fact, iTunes won't even let you copy them to the iPad! The easiest solution? Downrez them to 720P using an app like Handbrake.

Joel gives you a full tutorial on that here. You can also stream music and videos to the iPad with StreamToMe.

Just discovered at Gizmodo HQ—the iPhone and iPad default to hold 4 icons/apps in the bottom tray. But the iPad can store more!

By clicking and holding on any icon (just as you do to rearrange apps), you'll unlock each app's position. Then just drag any two additional apps into the bottom tray. Super handy.

iPad 3g Ship Date Information

Now that the iPad wifi version is out everyone wants to know when the iPad 3g ship date will be. The iPad 3g ship date will be sometime in "late April" although no exact date is given on Apple's Web site.

Many are expecting the ship date to be around April 24, as that is a Saturday and the iPad was released on a Saturday. Who knows though when the ship date will be. A sales rep at a local Apple store said keep checking Apple's Web site to find out the iPad 3g ship date as it will update there first.

First iPad Live Concert

First iPad Live Concert
Sunday night, Ustream will begin what it believes to be the first live music concert delivered to the iPad: Bon Jovi’s sold out show in Dallas, Texas.

The best way to enjoy a concert is live, of course, with movie theaters and computers or televisions (updated) coming in second and third, and the iPad coming in fourth, well ahead of the mobile phone, whose small screen relegates it to a distant fifth. But the iPad represents a new viewing option for the mostly-untapped live online music market with promise for the mobile viewing market, as well as in households where only one person might be a fan of a given band.

The device won’t make live online music (finally) happen singlehandedly. But large, portable screens will encourage the phenomenon of watching events live and online, because live shows are both a visual as well as an auditory medium. And as the above screenshot suggests, the interactive possibilities on an iPad or similar device outpace those of many other live music viewing platforms.

Apple iPad in-car installation

SoundMan Car Audio in Santa Clarita, California is the first to install an iPad in a car. The car of choice? A Toyota Tacoma pickup.

Although Hyundai already announced it will sell every 2011 Equus with an Apple iPad as an owner's manual, the aftermarket has already started coming up with some solutions of its own in the giddy hours following the iPad's official release. SoundMan Car Audio wasted no time fitting an iPad into the dash of a Toyota Tacoma.

In the video below, the SoundMan team shows step-by-step how it performed the installation. The iPad in the dash is merely a mock setup for the moment, but the team has plans to get an elaborate sound system up soon that will go along with the iPad.

In this Tacoma, SoundMan installed an Audison Bit One processor, a McIntosh six-channel amp, Onkyo ND-S1 and an iPod dock. The team repositioned some of the switches to the left of the steering wheel and installed the Bit One there, which will control the volume and audio settings.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rSnIXfoSU6I&feature=player_embedded

They still need to wire it up to the Audison Bit One sound processor and McIntosh MMC406M 6-channel amp, but they’ve fitted and molded the dash to the iPad. Sure it looks a tad awkward with it’s size and that bezel, but all of your media will be along for the ride right?

iPad scams

The iPad is going for $500. If you get a chance to get it for free, you'd be a fool not to take it. Don't be fooled.

Scammers are using the buzz surrounding Apple's iPad to get you to dish out your information. According to the Better Business Bureau , sites like Test it and Keep it are popping up on the internet. Test it and Keep it has 5,000 iPads that need to be beta tested. You sign up, test it for 2 months, then keep the iPad for free as compensation.

The BBB also warned of a tester offer out on Facebook. It has already been deleted. It tricked people into signing up for a $10 cell phone service.
